Orconectes limosus

Orconectes limosus , also called American crayfish .

Nourishes itself of all kinds of organic and vegetable remains. It consumes readily towards and other invertebrates, as well as small alive or dead fish.

Reproduction

Big shot in spring (April-May). A female can carry to 450 eggs lasting approximately 5 weeks. The development of the larvae is very fast; they become independent 8 days only after the blossoming (but lasted variable according to the temperature).
O. limosus is rather aggressive towards the small fish (Vairon S, épinoche S, etc) which it can devour.

Characteristic

Activates the day like the night. Thermal optimum towards 20°C, but supports from 1 to 30. Species little exigente as for water quality. Support organic pollution in its natural environment (great rivers, ponds, lakes…)

Fish in France

Considérée vermin, it can be fished everywhere in all seasons, without limitation of size or quantity; however, it is necessary to be provided with the chart of fishing.
