Orconectes limosus
Orconectes limosus , also called American crayfish .
Nourishes itself of all kinds of organic and vegetable remains. It consumes readily towards and other invertebrates, as well as small alive or dead fish.
Reproduction
- Big shot in spring (April-May). A female can carry to 450 eggs lasting approximately 5 weeks. The development of the larvae is very fast; they become independent 8 days only after the blossoming (but lasted variable according to the temperature).
Characteristic
- Activates the day like the night. Thermal optimum towards 20°C, but supports from 1 to 30. Species little exigente as for water quality. Support organic pollution in its natural environment (great rivers, ponds, lakes…)
Fish in France
- Considérée vermin, it can be fished everywhere in all seasons, without limitation of size or quantity; however, it is necessary to be provided with the chart of fishing.
