Orchis goat

The orchis goat ( Himantoglossum hircinum ) is a European Orchidée terrestrial.

Description

Robust plant being able to reach 1m, many sheets, rather dense cylindrical inflorescence, greenish broadside of crimson, sepals and petals gathered in helmet, labelle flower very lengthened, rolled up more or less deployed with horizontal with flowering. Odor strong, characteristic, near to that of the Goat.

May at July.

Habitat

Thin lawns, meadows, slope, on calcareous substrate.

Distribution

the Méditerranéo-Atlantic, rather localized and rare. Very widespread in the Center, Massif Central and area of Large Causses. Observed in Alsace, Charente, in Saône-et-Loire. Apple-brandy, Puy de Dôme, expensive Dormouse and, Aveyron. Five to six feet observed since ten years on chalk cuts, between two limes in the Paddle, in the North of the Seine (Méry on the Seine)
