Orchards of Labourdonnais
It is an extraordinary garden, an haven of peace of 40 hectares located at Mapou, small village in the north of Port-Louis. This garden feeds the Mauritius in flowers, fruits, and vegetables and he visits themselves throughout the year with a guide. The visit lasts between 1:00 and 2:00, with foot or in VTT. A pleasant ballade full with scents, perfumes and discovered.
The visit starts with the greenhouses, with many varieties of Anthurium S and other tropical flowers like the Bougainvillée S, Orchidée S, pink bay-trees, birds of paradise or Hibiscus, as well as immense feet of Vanille.
We move then towards the very beautiful residence of the Castle of Labourdonnais (1850), which is not visited, but that one can see, with its beautiful park and its trees centenaries. Further, we start the visit of the vegetable gardens or a armada women is pressed with spades and other gardening tools for " dorloter" vegetable plantations (salads, apples of love, pets and other cucurbitaceous…). Our charming guide makes us discover trees and plants of most common to most mysterious, we taste with a multitude of tropical fruits ignored and admire splendid flowers. An enclosure contains also some tortoises which one can approach and cherish.
It is good to be trotted in the middle of the plantations of papaw trees, guava trees and pineapple. To close this beautiful visit, a shop sells the products of the garden and you will be entitled to a good fresh fruit juice (very waited after a 2 hours ballade by 30°!) and with a tasting of marvellous fruit pastes made " maisons" (papaw, pineapple, guava, fruit of passion, gimgembre…).
This garden is ignored and little visited, because not sold by the turns operators and agencies. Such an amount of better, because all savors and the authenticity of Mauritius are discovered there!
