Opus vermiculatum

The opus vermiculatum (of Latin vermiculus , small worm) is a mosaic technique of ancient which forms sinuous lines, clean with the figurative drawing. The tesselles employees have cubic forms or in bevel, variable dimensions, which can only go down to a few millimetres. This variety of forms and dimensions allows the layout of drawings of a more or less large smoothness. Superb examples were found with Pompéi, and are exposed to the Museum of Naples. Let us quote the famous mosaic of the Bataille of Arbèles between Alexandre Large the and Darius, table of large surface realized with the tesselles ones of approximately 2 mm on side.
