Opton
The Opton is small a French Rivière, of 17 km length, Affluent of left bank of the Vesgre which runs in the departments Yvelines and of Eure-et-Loir.
The river was called formerly “Aubeton” then “Obton” in the Eure-et-Loir before its name is unified in “Opton”.
The course of Opton
Opton takes its source in the common of Hauteville in the Forêt of Rambouillet, to 170 m of altitude. Its course initially directed towards the west, inflects very early towards north and joins Vesgre at the exit of Houdan in the park of the hospital, with 90 meters of altitude, that is to say an average slope of 4,7%.

To note that the commune of Boutigny-on-Opton was amalgamated with that of Prouais in 1972 to form the commune of Boutigny-Prouais, while Thionville-on-Opton was absorbed in 1964 by the commune of Maulette.
