The Oppidum de Nages or Oppidum of the Manors house is located in the valley of the Vaunage, near the village of Stroke-and-Solorgues, in the Département of Gard, between Nimes and Sommières.

History of the site

The site is occupied Neolithic at the Roman period. The Gallic tribe of the Volques Arécomiques settled there in the middle of the III E. The Voie Domitienne, which connects Italy to Spain, is built into -118. It passes to proximité.
The oppidum is abandoned at the end of I er, the inhabitants active to settle, like those of the close oppida, in Nemausus (Nimes) which then becomes the romanized capital of all the area. The stone punts enclosure, the turns of guet and defense were largely restored. They contain streets in checkerwork, dwelling houses, stores, a Fanum.

Archeology

The site was excavated and restored of 1958 to 1974 by the French archeologist Michel Py.
