History

The area of Opole was the cradle of the tribe of Opolans which integrated the Polish State lately created in 966, and Opole was one of the most important centers of the Polish Silesia with Legnica and Brzeg until in 1532 when Poland lost the city with the extinction of the dynasty Piast. Between 1532 and 1945 the city belonged in several states of German language: Brandebourg, Austria, Prussia and Germany linked, except for the period between 1597 and 1625 during which the city returned to Poland. In 1945, the city once again returned to Poland.
