Zeta Ophiuchi (ζ Oph/ζ Ophiuchi) is a star of the Constellation of Ophiuchus. Contrary to the majority of brilliant stars, ζ Ophiuchi does not have a proper name, although it can have been called Han by the Chinese.
Although ζ Ophiuchi is a star blue Géante very hot, it appears reddish because of the interstellar dust which absorbs most of the blue light. In fact, in the absence of this dust, ζ Ophiuchi would be several times more brilliant and would be among the most brilliant stars of the sky. ζ Ophiuchi is with approximately half of the initial phase of sound stellar evolution and will swell in the few next million years to become a star Supergéante before completing its life in a spectacular Supernova.
