Operation release of Iraq

The invasion of Iraq in 2003 ( Operation Iraqi Release , finally famous Operation Iraqi Freedom according to the term adopted by the Department of Defense of the United States); The operation Liberté of Iraq sounded the beginning of the Guerre in Iraq, officially finished on May 1st, 2003. The operations of the combined countries, like those of the the United Kingdom ( Operation Télic ) and of the Australia, bear other code names.

Release

This military operation began the March 19th 2003 with 21:37, a few hours after the end of the ultimatum of 48h of the President of the United States George W. Bush which required of the Iraqi president Saddam Hussein like with her sons Odai and Qusai to leave Iraq.

Directed since the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) it is based on the principle of the “Shock and fear” ( Shock and Awe in English) which tries by the use of armaments very powerful and precise to cause a shock and to generate terror in the regular Armée and the population so that they go more easily.

Unfolding

The 26 days of the offensive led by the coalition in Iraq constitute an updating of the traditional war: an irresistible mechanized push, circumventing the cities and crossing the rivers promptly, supported by aviation to destroy any resistance and to seize the capital finally, corresponds indeed to the typical course of the blitzkrieg led to the beginning of the year 1940.
