Opération Swordfish is an American film of action thriller left the September 12th 2001 carried out by Dominic Sena.

Synopsis

Stanley , an extraordinary Hacker, is engaged by the mysterious Gabriel and its assistant Ginger , in order to create a data-processing Ver, in order to recover the turbid money forgotten on accounts of the State. In exchange, Gabriel is committed helping Stanley financially so that it juridically obtains the guard of his daughter.

The realism of this film was accentuated because of its exit in France the shortly after the Attentats of September 11th, 2001. On the contrary, the exploits data-processing, necessary to the Blockbuster S dealing with the hacking, make it not very credible.

One of the main themes is that of the patriotism , usually rather present in American films of war. Indeed, the alleged terrorist, Gabriel , are in fact a renegade agent of a secret organization created by Hoover, which has for only motivation defense American freedoms. And that even if the price to arrive at its goal is to use the force, to fly of the money in a bank and to take as hostages innocent American citizens. This vision of patriotism is identical to that which one finds in small the militia American campaigns and whose motivations are carried by the Gun Culture American and NRA, or in the film '' The Rock ''. One also notes at the time of the meeting of identification of the so-called body of Gabriel Shear, the wink at the Israeli secret services MOSSAD, of which Gabriel Shear formed part. An old membership which makes credible its effectiveness on the ground, like its control of the diversion.

This film is dissociated by its end which is only with half “happy end”: on a side, Stanley finds his/her daughter and obtains Gabriel the money for carried out work. That enables him to consider a comfortable life in company of his/her daughter. However, one realizes that Gabriel simulated its death at the end of film. The scenario also exploits the concept of duality: the hero is an hacker, certainly repented, but who takes again his illegal activity vis-a-vis the possibility of obtaining the guard of his daughter. On another side, its adversary is presented at the same time like a terrorist and a patriot extremist; the border between these two concepts is presented like extremely thin.

Another major topic of this film is that of diversion : the protagonists produce juggling acts by diverting the attention of the external people. Thus Gabriel simulates its death, and camouflages its terrorist activities by a life of lust and festivals.

The scenario of film exposes the problems: “can one treat the Evil by the Evil? ”, illustrated by the will of Gabriel to organize terrorist acts against the terrorists themselves. Another unhealthy topic is that of the sacrifice of the innocent ones: Gabriel explains to Stanley why it is granted, if that is necessary, “divine” right to sacrifice some innocent American in order to be able to protect all the others effectively.

One can note a wink amusing of the scenario writer at the community linuxienne: the first hacker convened by Gabriel is called Alex Torvald and is Finnish; he will be intercepted by the police force to the airport. He refers to Linus Torvalds, Finnish of origin and creator of the core Linux, currently used on many data-processing waiters.

This film treating topic of the hacking partly, there are many improbabilities, in particular the use of “graphic” tools for the programming of the worm, and the breaking of the first code: the pirate breaks a coding of 128 bits to the hand in a little more than one minute.
