Operation Rampart
The Opération Rampart is an episode of the the Second Intifada during which the Israeli armed redeployed in the autonomous Palestinian territories of the West Bank in April 2002 with an aim of putting an end to the Palestinian terrorist attacks since these territories.
The battle of Jenin and a media battle around what occurred there of was big events.
Context
The israélo-Palestinian conflict was into 2002 much more fatal than the previous year. Since September 2000, Palestinian rising, Israeli repression and the attacks Palestinian kamikazes made more than 2.850 victims, for three quarters Palestinian. At the end of March 2002, following a series of bloody murders in Israel, the government of Ariel Sharon started a military immense operation, called operation " Rempart". All the autonomous Palestinian cities were re-occupied, except for Jericho, and their inhabitants placed under curfew during several weeks. The operation begins 2 days after one énième attack-suicide which proceeded with the Hotel Park de Netanya. March 27th, 2002 a Palestinian kamikaze explodes himself in the hall of the hotel during the seder of Pessah killing 15 civilians and by wounding a hundred. This event making following more than 40 attacks suicides having took place since the beginning of March 2002 having made 120 died and of the hundreds of casualties.
