Operation Braces
The Opération Braces , named according to the biblical character of Moïse, is an operation coordinated between Tsahal, the CIA, the embassy of the the United States to Khartoum, of the mercenaries and the military forces of the State of the Sudan to allow the clandestine transfer of the Juifs falashas of Sudan towards the State of Israel during the Famine of 1984.
Started the November 21st 1984, the operation implied air transport of 8000 people until the January 5th 1985. Thousands of Israel Beta had fled with foot the Ethiopia to join refugee camps in Sudan. One estimates at 4000 dead, the number of deaths during this exodus. Sudan secretly authorized this transfer by the Israelis. The Arab countries made pressure on Sudan to stop this emigration, as soon as information had come from to them. Nearly 1000 Jews falashas were thus blocked. The majority of these ended up being evacuated later at the time of the Opération Josué carried out by the United States. More than one thousand of children were found in Israel, separate of their family remained in Africa, until the realization of Ethiopian immigration thanks to the Opération Solomon.
This operation is the subject of the film free-Israeli " Goes, screw and become " , which accepted in 2005, the price of best film to the international festival of film of Copenhagen.
