Operate by remote control
The remote controls are devices, generally of reduced size, being used to handle some another remotely, via a cable, by Infra-rouge or Ondes radio. The remote controls are used to interact with audio-visual toys, apparatuses like a television or a Hi-fi system, an engine of door of garage or gate, a lighting, the opening of the doors of a car, apparatuses of topography, lifting gear or work public, etc
History
The remote control without wire for television set was born thanks to the company Zenith Electronics which, in the years 1950 had asked a score of engineers to develop a means of changing the television channels remotely, without having to move until the poste.
They are Robert Adler helped of Eugene Polley which truly invented the first remote control with Ultrason S, in 1956.
The two creators saw themselves decreeing various prices, like that of the technical Prix of the Institut of the engineers radio operator in 1958 or that of the Academy of Science and arts of television in 1997.
Operation
Operate by remote control with Infrarouge
The infra-red “manufactured” is emitted by a infra-red diode, small electronics component accepting a tension of approximately 1,5 V on its terminals, transforms an electrical signal into a light being a spectrum invisible wavelength to the naked eye and being located in lower part of the red, known as infra-red. It is however possible to collect this light thanks to a numerical camera because their sensors are sensitive there. That can make it possible easily to test the operation of a remote control. This system became current at our time, being used to give the order to an automatism of door of garage or car, used for the remote controls of TV or to convey a sound in the infra-red helmets. The disadvantage of the infra-red is its propagation: so in interior the ray can be reflected on the walls, in outside it is necessary to aim at the receiver not to have an error of transmission of the order. Although modulated around 30KHz, this one is disturbed by neons, the lamps with energy saving or the rays of the sun, and functions only on a few meters. No obstacle must be reproduced then on the way.
Radio remote control
The carrier wave called “Hertzian wave” or radio wave, is an electric carrying signal being useful to convey nonvisible electric information. The range is quite higher than that of the infra-red. These waves cross also small obstacles: wall/carries light, curtain… Lastly, they “sprinkle”, which makes it possible not to aim the object directly at controlling.
Universal remote control (domestic apparatuses, HiFi, televisions, etc)
In front of the proliferation of the controllable apparatuses by a remote control owner, the users found themselves with many remote controls to manage, up to ten in the most unfavourable cases (or for richest…) ! These remote controls are recognized with the buttons making it possible to select the apparatus to be controlled or the activity to be started. The universal remote controls are often roughcast tens of buttons useful only for one particular apparatus, or in a particular context. There exist also universal remote controls of which whole or part of the buttons are skeletal, or appear on a tactile screen LCD.Several technologies are used to meet the needs for these technophiles.
Base of data
The majority of the universal remote controls have a list of the controllable apparatuses, classified by marks and models. It is then enough to find each apparatus controllable in the base of data. If none corresponds, it is almost always possible to engage a mode of “research” consisting in traversing all the apparatuses of the base and to send the order of extinction. If the apparatus to be controlled does not die out, the remote control passes to the following. If it dies out, the other keys should be checked, and if that corresponds, the apparatus is found. This mode of research can function because many apparatuses in the same way standard exist under different marks and models according to the countries.
Training
In front of the multiplication of the references of apparatuses to be controlled, the manufacturers of remote control added an option allowing their universal remote control to learn the codes from another remote control. Some can do only that, others cumulate with the base of data.
Base of evolutionary data
To avoid having to add the functionalities of training, other manufacturers preferred to allow the user to obtain the update of the base of data of its remote control by Internet, or directly per telephone via an integrated audio modem: it is enough to plate the remote control on compound to recover the missing codes.
