Openings for Fidelio

The four openings composed by Ludwig van Beethoven for its opera Fidelio (three openings Léonore and the opening Fidelio ) are the reflection of the various versions which knew this work and of the difficulties that the type-setter met to impose it on the public. The opera nowadays opens with the final opening gone back to 1814 (opening Fidelio ) while the most typical opening Léonore III , of the most popular style beethovénien and of the four, is very often played in concert.

  • Léonore I (opus 138, 1805 or 1807?)

  • Léonore II (opus 72, 1805)
  • Léonore III (opus 72a, 1806)
  • Fidelio (opus 72b, 1814)
