LOpen Directory Project , shortened ODP' , so known under the name of DMOZ ( Directory Mozilla ), is a repertory of Web sites created in 1998, under license Open Directory . It is managed by a vast community of voluntary editors coming from the whole world, each one being responsible for one or more categories.

At the end of April 2007, the repertory contains more than 4,83 million addresses of sites, classified in more: 700000 categories. More: 71000 editors took part in the project since its launching, of which close to: 8000 are always active. The repertory proposes resources in 78  Language S.

The ODP is entirely free. The addition of a new site and the use of the data do not cost anything. The data can be downloaded and used free, with the help of the respect of the license and the addition of a code HTML of attribution.

The ODP is managed by editors, who check the sites suggested, classify them in the suitable category and others add some to the liking of their visits on the Web. Everyone can present its candidature to become editor.

Many sites use the data of the ODP, in complement of other services, most known being the Directory Google; this last has the advantage of classifying the pages according to their popularity (PageRank), or alphabetically; on the other hand he does not propose the same category in another language.
