OpenLaszlo
OpenLaszlo is a development platform for Web applications. It makes it possible to create rich applications (Rich Internet Application) including/understanding an interface rich in functionalities (drag & drop, miter, pull-down menu, animation etc) while offering a deployment facilitated by the means of navigator Internet. OpenLaszlo is compatible with the majority of navigators Internet and the operating systems having either a plugin Flash, or simply of the Javascript support. OpenLaszlo is based on a grammar XML called LZX. The people accustomed to the development of Web applications will not have any difficulty in apprehend OpenLaszlo.
Some complements in connection with LZX and of the OpenLaszlo waiter:
-
LZX is a description XML and JavaScript of the identical application, on the principle, with XUL and XAML. This declaratory description makes it possible to build an graphical interface very quickly and to profit from a prototype in a reduced amount of time.
- the OpenLaszlo waiter is a Servlet Java which compiles application LZX in binary achievable. The resulting application is compiled to the choice by the user towards the format Flash owner, or the open format HTML/AJAX.
History of the project
OpenLaszlo was originally called Laszlo Presentation Server (LPS). The development of LPS began originally in autumn 2001. The versions of demonstration are setting-up to acquire partners, during 2002. Several of them deployed applications. The first official version leaves in the beginning 2002.
In October 2004, Laszlo Systems releases the whole of the code of Laszlo Presentation Server under license open CPL source license and starts the OpenLaszlo project. In 2005, parallel to the release of version 3.0, the name of Laszlo Presentation Server is changed into OpenLaszlo.
Stakes:
- 2000 first prototype
- 2001 beginning of the development
- 2002 pre-releases LPS; first deployment Laszlo application (Behr)
- 2003 LPS 1.0,1.1 released; deployment applications (Yahoo, Earthlink)
- 2004 LPS 2.0,2.1,2.2 released; LPS becomes an open project source
- 2005 OpenLaszlo 3.0 released; name change, Lazlo becomes OpenLaszlo
- 2006 OpenLaszlo 4.0 released; addition of compilation Ajax/DHTML
Deployment
A Laszlo application can be deployed like a traditional servlet Java. This one is compiled and returned to the navigator dynamically. This process requires that the OpenLaszlo waiter turn on the Web server.Another manner of making is to compile an application LZX in a binary SWF or in HTML/AJAX. This method is called the deployment SOLO. The deployed applications of the kind have certain functionalities in less, although the last versions tried to cure this problem.
License
OpenLaszlo is proposed under Common Public License, set up by IBM.
