Running Marxist Italian " ouvriériste" appeared in 1961 around the review Quaderni Rossi . Operaio , Italian word, comes from Latin and means, working. Mario Tronti and Toni Negri is the principal theorists. They create a new review in 1963: Class Operaia (to be pronounced Classified Opéraïa and meaning Working class Italian ). The opéraïsme rests on the idea that the Working class is the engine of the capitalist development. The Socialisme is regarded as a new form of Capitalisme. The opéraïstes preach the refusal of work, therefore of their identity as workers, and (in a typical process of " Aufhebung " hégelienne) regards this self-destruction as objectively necessary to fight against capitalism and producing the Communisme.

Into 1969, the current opéraïste is divided into two rival organizations: Potere Operaio and Lotta Continued. From 1972, the opéraïstes engage in the Working Autonomie (Autonomia Operaia).

In France, the review Matériaux for the intervention (1972-1973) was directly inspired by the theses opéraïstes. It will give rise to the group Camarades in 1974.
