Oostkamp

Oostkamp is a common Dutch-speaking of Belgium located in Flemish Région in the Province of Western Flanders.

The commune includes the villages of Hertsberge, Ruddervoorde and Waardamme, in addition to Oostkamp itself. At January 1st 2005, Oostkamp had a population of 21.543 inhabitants living on a surface of 79.65 km ², giving one population density of 270.49 habitants/km ². The name derives from the name Médiéval of the city, Orscamp , meaning " place chevaux" (cfr English " horse").

The Canadian released the village in 1944 (Second world war) during the Bataille of Moertbrugge. A monument on the Canal of Ghent honors 41 Canadian died during this battle.
