Ontinyent

Ontinyent (in Castilian Onteniente ) is a municpiality of the Valencian Communauté (Spain) located at the western south of the Province of Valence, in the Comarque of the Vall of Albaida. It has 36.368 inhabitants (INNATE 2006).

Geography

Since Valence one reaches this locality by taking A-7 Spanish, then the CV-40, and finally the CV-650. It is also served by the railway line Xàtiva - Alcoi

The climate is Mediterranean cold, with frosts the spring ones and snows in winter; the summers are extremely hot, although the nights are sometimes fresh.

The municipal territory of Ontinyente is close to that of the following communes: Agullent, Aielo de Malferit, Bocairente, Fontanares, Moixent and Vallada, in the Province of Valence, Alfafara and Bañeres in the Province of Alicante.

Entre the censuses of 1920 and 1930, the population decreased because Fontanares took its indépendance

Economy

Its economy rests mainly on the Textile industry, with large companies which with the passing of years were references both in Spain and internationally: Gandia Blasco , Revert , Tejidos Reyna , Colortex , to quote some examples. However, the crisis of the textile sector cruelly was felt in the Comarque and many emblematic companies like Paduana or other least, bound in one way or another to the textile finally put the key under the door.

It has moreover one considerable agricultural richness. Its vegetation typically Mediterranean, fondalement consists of pine S, Romarin, Thym etc the most important cultures are the Vigne, the olive-trees, the Caroubier S, Amandier S, Céréale S and Verger S.

Ontinyent also has a certain tourist tradition due to its festivals of Moros there Cristianos.

The locality is also the seat of a Savings bank: Caixa Ontinyent , which has a certain importance as well in the Comarque as in the zones bordering.
