The Railroad Ontario Northland , or Ontario Northland Railway in English ( ONR ), is a Canadian railroad and a company of the provincial crown. The Ontario Northland Railway ( ONR , AAR Reporting mark S HAS, ONTA) has Canadian provincial Railway and Crown corporation. Its north-south mainline has southern terminus At North Bay, passing through Cochrane, and has northern terminus At Moosonee, one the south Shore off James Bay - all in its namesake province off Ontario. History 1902-1946

History 1946-2005

Three new mines were opened in Northern Ontario in the 1950s and 1960s. Sherman Undermines in Temagami was opened in 1955, Adams Mine in Kirkland Lake in 1963, and Kidd Creek Mine in Timmins in 1967. The Ontario Northland Railway built spurs to serf thesis mines.

Ontario Northland is recognized for its tourist train Polar Bear Express which circulates of Cochrane to Moosonee, making 6 return tickets per week lasting the summer months. The train leaves Cochrane in the morning, remains some hours with Moosonee and turns over to the evening. Engines and rolling stock

The railroad has approximately 25 Diesel loco, and approximately 700 parts of rolling stock. Ontario Northland Transportation Commission

The Ontario Northland Transportation Commission was established ace the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway Commission in 1902 to oversee the railway. In 1946, with the name changes to the railway, the name off the commission was changed to the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission.
