Onomichi
Onomichi (尾道市 - shi, おのみちし in Hiragana) is a Japanese city located on the littoral of the inland sea between Okayama and Hiroshima. Administratively, the city is in the Préfecture of Hiroshima and in the district of Mitsugi.
October 31st, 2005, the city counted 116 833 inhabitants, for a density of 550 hab/km ².
Total surface area of the east city of 212,33 km ².
History
The city was creates at the 13th century and became prosperous in the 14th century thanks to the trade with China. It became at the beginning of the 20th century a place very appreciated of the écrivains.- 1898, Onomichi becomes the second city of the prefecture of Hiroshima.
- 1937, the town of Kurihara and the village of Yoshiwa are attached to the district of the city.
- 1939, the village of Nami is attached to the district of the city.
- 1951, the village of Fukada is attached to the city.
- 1954, three villages of the district are attached to the city.
- 1955, three villages of the Namakuma district are attached to the city.
- 1957, the village of Urasaki of the Namakuma district is attached to the city.
- 1970, the town of Mukaihigashi of the Mitsugi district is incorporated in the city.
- on March 28th 2005, the towns of Mitsugi and Mukaishima of the district of Mitsugi amalgamate with Onomichi
- on January 10th 2006, the towns of Innoshima and Setoda of the district of Toyota amalgamates with Onomichi.
Monuments
- It is a city where one finds many temples (approximately 25, because the city did not know destruction during the Second world war) among which the temple of Fenko , the temple of Fukuzen builds in 1573, the Buddhist temple of Saioku , founded with the 9th century, the temple founded Jodo in 616 and the temple Kairyu .

the park Senkoji (千光寺公園 Senkōji-kōen ). The park is the starting point of the way of the literature (文学のこみち Bungaku No komichi ); in homage to the many writers who remained in the city. At the top of the park the temple Senkoji is (千光寺) who offers a point of view on the inland sea.

The tree which symbolizes the city is the Prunus.The flower of the city is the flower of prunus.

- the station of Ononmichi and the station of Onomichi Is for the normal train.
- the new station of Onomichi which is useful for the Shinkansen (新尾道駅).
