Onkr

Onkr, the abominable man of the ices , is a humorous series of Cartoon Franco-Belgian created in the the Sixties. The text is written by Jean Melac and Yvan Delporte. The illustrations are of Tenas. The series tells the imaginary adventures of a tribe of prehistoric men (called the " Onkriens") who survived until the XXe century by congelation in the ices of Siberia and who are discovered by a French scientific exhibition.

The title of the series is in fact the name of the principal character, namely a prehistoric man who is called Onkr.

Features

The series is in particular appeared in the Journal of Mickey between 1961 and 1972, like in others periodic but published forever in album. It includes/understands approximately about fifteen stories which are followed.

Onkr is drawn colors. It is a cartoon rich in events which follow one another at often fast intervals. This dynamism is reinforced by graphic elements frequently used in the drawing: features suggesting the speed of displacements, beads of sweat around the face of the characters, swirls of dust, lettering of the onomatopoeias and the cries of the characters…

There is in the series a setting in opposition between the character of the " civilisés" of the team of scientists (rather careful and timorés) and that of Onkriens, characters rough S, courageous and very strapping men.

Synopsis

A French forwarding led by professors Dugommier and Schmoll discovers at the fine bottom of Siberia the body frozen in the ice of a prehistoric man. The man is defrosted and brought back to the life. Its first cry is " Onkr " and that will become its name.

Onkr is brought to Paris like a scientific curiosity. He is very strapping man and particularly turbulent. He creates an enormous disorder in the city. The scientists bring back Onkr to Siberia and discover all its tribe then. They also discover an odd animal, of color blue, which will be called the " Onkrakrikru ".

  • Onkr : the character who gives his name to the series, it is a prehistoric man who discovered is frozen and brought back to the life by the team of scientists

  • Onkriens : the members of the tribe of Onkr, it are bearded and vêtus of skins of animals. In the bubbles of the dialogs, the text of the words of Onkriens is transcribed phonetically and all the words of the same sentence are attached without spaces
  • Papa Onkr : the senior of the tribe, presented like the father of Onkr
  • Professor Dugommier : one of the scientists who discover Onkr
  • the Sergeant : a soldier who accompanies the team by scientists in Siberia, it carries permanently a helmet
  • Onkrakrikru : an imaginary prehistoric animal of color blue resembling a dragon; he is discovered in the ices of Siberia and will be tamed by Onkriens
