Onfroi (or Umfrid) of Old women († towards 1050), was the first chief of the Honneur of Beaumont-the-Roger, one of the most important groups of fields in Eastern Normandy.

Biography

Its ascent remains discussed. He is the grandson of Torf (or Turolf) that some historians identify with Turstin the Rich person, the father-in-law of Robert the Dane and others with an ancestor of the lords of Harcourt. Whatever the good assumption, it is not any doubt that Onfroi goes down from a Scandinavian family.

In addition to Beaumont-the-Roger, it has goods dispersed through all Normandy, in Cotentin, Hiémois, in the Pays of Trough, in the Low Seine (Vatteville-the-Street), in Évrecin (Normanville) and in Norman Vexin (Bouafles). These grounds come either from the favor of the dukes Richard II and Robert Splendid the, or of the recovery of goods of Church. The honor of Beaumont for example consists of skins of the inheritance of the Abbaye of Bernay. On the other hand, the possessions around Pont-Audemer result from the inheritance of its ancestors.

In 1034, it founds (in truth it restores) with the assistance of the monks of Saint-Wandrille the male monastery of Courtyards, a few kilometres from Pont-Audemer.

During the minority of Guillaume Bastard the, the future Conqueror, Roger Ier de Tosny, holder of the honor of Conches, tackles the fields of Onfroi. But about 1040, the son of this last, Roger de Beumont, fight battle to him. It is a defeat for the lord of Conches which finds death during the combat.
