One studio
Studio One is the label discographic created with Kingston in 1962 by the producer jamaïcain Clement Seymour Dodd, said Coxsone. It can be regarded as the label historically most important of the musical production jamaïcaine.
History
All starts in 1954, when C.S. Dodd, large amateur of Jazz and on rhythm' blues, does not decide to assemble its clean sound system. Beginning with discs from Jazz, Rhythm' N blues or boogy which it is essential itself of the United States, it engraves a few years later its own productions, recorded with local musicians, on Dubplate S, drawn discs with only one specimen, only intended to be last at the time of the evenings of sound sound system. It is this same year that Dodd bases its studio of recording, in Kingston, on Brentford Road: One studio. Its group of musicians counts legends such as the trombonist Don Drummond, the saxophonists Tommy McCook, Roland Alphonso, the trumpet player Johnny " Dizzy" Moore, or the young organist Jackie Mittoo. In 1964, this group takes the name of " The Skatalites ".
During the Sixties (the years ska, then Rocksteady) Studio One records many artists jamaïcains of foreground: Bob Marley & The Wailers (the tube ska " Simmer Down"), Ken Boothe, The Skatalites, Marcia Griffiths, The Heptones, or Delroy Wilson.
In the Seventies, golden age of the Reggae, Studio One continues to discover and produce musicians of immense talent: Johnny Osbourne, The Gladiators, Refusals Brown, Sugar Minott, The Wailing Drunk persons… It launches moreover the concept of " discomix" , long versions of the pieces especially intended for the tracks of dance. He at the origin of a great number of Riddims is regarded today as the traditional ones: the " Real Rock" , the " Rock'n'roll Strong Rock" , the " Declaration off Rights" or the " Still In Love".
Formations
In the Fifties, the various formations working and recording for Coxsone Dodd are initially: " The Joe Williams Band" , " The All Stars" and " The Blasters" Blues; who are usually directed by Cluett Johnson (low). The group, with musicians like Theophilus Beckford (piano and song) and Roland Alphonso (saxophone), play primarily of the rythm and blues.During the time of 1959 to 1963 they will be formations with more known men like " Roland And His Alley Cats" or " His Upsetters" , " Gift Drummond And His Greenlanders" , " Studio One Band" and " Monty And The Cyclones", towards 63,64, " Tommy McCook And His Group".
Towards the end 64 " The Skatalites" (written Ska-Talites) and towards the end of 1965 with the internment and the death of emergent Gift Drummond " Brothers" drunk person;.
At the beginning of 1967, follows another change with the Rocksteady and the " Drunk Vendors " , " Defenders" drunk person; , " The New Establishment" or " Sound Dimension ". In the beginning of the year the 70 formations are called " The Brentford Road Set" Disco music; and " Vegetables" underground;.
