Omer Taverne is a Belgian racing cyclist born the July 27th 1904 with Waudrez close to Binche, his/her parents are of French nationality originating in Gognies-Roadway (France.)

In 1917 it starts “to be tested” in local tests then launches out in the traditional ones: 10th and then 15th of Liege-Bastogne-Liege in 1925 and 1926,45e of Paris-Turns in 1927, its sporting career proceeded between 1922 and 1935.

In 1929 he wants to engage in the Tour de France. The race is with its 23e edition, it will take place from June 30th to July 28th on a distance of 5286 km (turn 2003: 3427 km), 155 leaving, two categories are aligned: the aces which include/understand 10 teams of marks and the “tourist-truck drivers” to which belonged Omer. To the turn 1930, it again will be illustrated at the time of the 4th stage Brest-Valves, 210 km, it finishes with the sprint, disputed on three quarters of solo circuit of the cycle-racing track which measured 374 meters, Taverne carries it accuracy in front of Charles Pélissier, Piemontesi Binda and Leducq. It will finish the Tour de France with the 29e place on 100 classified with 4:23' 52'' of the French winner André Leducq.

It is during year 1930 that Omer Taverne still will be illustrated, in traditional this time, it finishes 10th Tour of Flandres gained by Frans Bonduel, it will gain the championship of Zurich (currently test of the world cup) while beating in the order Désiré Louesse (B) and max Bulla (A). The prize list of the winners of this test, indicates that Omer is only the victorious Belgian of 1914 to 1963, the edition of 1964 is gained by Guido Reybrouck. In 1935, it will finish 7th of a Paris-Roubaix carried by Gaston Rebry.

He died on October 10th, 1981 with old 77 years with Binche in Belgium
