OMEGA is a Video game of strategy developed and published by Origin Systems in 1989.

Gameplay

The play placed the player in the skin of a designer of “cyber-tanks”. With limited funds, the player was to build a tank able to overcome a whole series of increasingly difficult competitor tanks in arenas dedicated to this kind of affontement. Any victory gave to the player a higher accreditation and funds, until the accreditation OMEGA and an unlimited budget.

What returned the different and interesting play was the way in which the tanks were designed, since they were to be programmed by the player using an internal text editor; the player carried out thus a script of order, similar of structure with the language BASIC.

The play proposed even a connection by Modem to BBS and other computers in order to download scripts and arenas, an original initiative for a play of this time.

Omega is also a Rogue-like programmed by Laurence Brothers and published in 1988 on DOS and Linux. It was about the one of the first plays of this kind proposing of vast outsides in addition them usual undergrounds to be explored, as well as an elaborate scenario.
