Omdourman

Omdourman (or Omdurman ) is more the big city of the Sudan, located opposite the capital Khartoum on the the Nile. It counted 1,2 million inhabitants in 1993. It forms with Khartoum and Bahri the arts center and industrial of the country.

History

The city shelters the tomb of the Mahdi. With the battle of Omdourman in 1898, the British carried out by Lord Kitchener demolished the troops mahdists, thus ensuring their domination on Sudan.

Education

Omdourman counts several universities.

Sport

Omdourman counts three football teams: Al Hilal Omdurman, Al Merreikh Omdurman and Al Mourada Omdurman.
