The county of Lassen is a county of the State of California to the the United States. With the census of 2000, it counted 33.828 inhabitants. Its seat is Susanville.
History
The county of Lassen was created in 1864 starting from territories of the Comté of Plucked and of the Comté of Shasta. Its name is derived from the Mount Lassen which was called thus in the honor of Peter Lassen, one of the guides of the general John C. Fremont and a known trapper. It was killed by the Paiute S at the base of the mountain in 1859. This county contains Lassen Volcano National Park, as well as many lakes.
