The General Omar Efraín Torrijos Herrera (February 13rd 1929 - July 31st 1981) is a Panamanian officer. Although it forever officially carried the title of President of the Republic, it was, semi-officially, the only one directing country of 1968 to its death.

Died

Omar Torrijos dies in an air crash, on July 31st, 1981. It is buried in a mausoleum close to Panama.

Private life

His/her son Martín Torrijos is the current president of Panama (since the May 2nd 2004).
