Omaguaca

The Omaguacas or Humahuacas are an old indigenous ethnos group, which lived the territory of the Argentine and the Bolivia, more precisely the current zone of Tilcara and Humahuaca, in province of Jujuy, and the southernmost area of the Département of Tarija. The omaguacas belonged to a confederation of ethnos groups of farmers who had reached an important development in the field of weaving and the pottery. Various tribes constituted the confederation, like the humahuacas propement said, the uquía S , the purmamarcas , the will tilcaras , the tumbayas , the tilians , the yala S , the yavis , the chuys , the quilatas , the chilchas or Chichas , the casabindos and the argamasas .

The northern sector of the omaguacas was next to the territory of the Lípe S . In the west they were close to the Alpatama S or atacamas . The southern sector was a zone of transition where tribes like the Jujuys were, the Ocloya S and the Pular S which clearly formed part of the group of the Diaguita S or paziocas . The omaguacas were differentiated partially from the paziocas (or diaguitas) to have shared a whole of cultural and genetic characteristics with the populations atacamanes and Arawak , like also the Chané and perhaps the Huarpes as well as the Tomatas .

Los yufis and the hutangeros are groups of chilchas which rebelled against the chief of the tribe (the tambuka) and went to live in the plains, far from its field.
