The Olympic stadium (in Greek: Ολυμπιακό Στάδιο ) of Athens was built in 1982, then it was completely renovated to accommodate OJ of 2004.

It belongs to the Olympic Complexe of Athens. Located in the district of Maroussi at Athens, it is the principal Greek stage which accommodated the tests of Athlétisme OJ of 2004 as well as the final of football. It also accommodated the opening ceremony of the August 13rd 2004 and of the closing ceremony on August 29th, 2004. The record of multitude of the stage is of 74.473 people whereas it was configured for 72.000 places during the Olympic Games, although only 56.700 seats were made publicly available for the events of athletics and for the final of football.

It accommodated the final of the league of the champions 2007 which opposed the AC Milan and the Liverpool FC (2-1).

The Olympic stadium at the origin conceived in 1979 and was built between 1980-1982. It was built in times to accommodate the European championships of athletics. It was inaugurated by the president Greek of the time, Konstantinos Karamanlis the September 8th 1982. It also accommodated several events the such Mediterranean plays of 1991 and the Championnats of the world of athletics 1997, showing whereas it could be able to accommodate major sports events after its defeat to gain the organization of the Olympic Games of summer of 1996. The stage was completely renovated at time for the plays, including one discussed roof designed by Santiago Calatrava. The roof was just accomplished for the opening of the plays, and the stage then was officially D-open the July 30th 2004.

The Olympic stadium was used by the three prinicipaux clubs of Athens, the Olympiakos Pirée, the Panathinaikos and AEK Athens. Panathinaikos had employed the stage regularly since 2005 for its matches. For the season 2007-8, the teams will turn over to the Stade of Apostolos Nikolaidis, until a new stage, the Votanikos Arena, that is to say built. However, they will continue to employ the Olympic stadium of Athens for their European matches. This stage also accommodated the finales of the Ligue of the champions 1993/94 (AC Milan - FC Barcelona 4-0) and 2006/07 as well as the finales of the Cut of Europe of the clubs champions of 1982/83 (Hamburg SV - Juventus 1-0) and the final of the Coupe of Europe of the winners of cut of 1987 (Ajax - Lokomotive Leipzig 1-0).
