Olympic anthem

A Olympic anthem composed by Spyros Samaras (music) and Kostís Palamás (words) was played for the first time at the time of the Jeux of I {{Re}} Olympiade with Athens in 1896. Thereafter, various musical compositions decorated the opening ceremonies until the Jeux of Rome in 1960, date on which the composition of Samaras/Palamás became the official Olympic anthem (decision taken by the Session of the International Olympic committee in 1958).

The Olympic anthem is used as anthem for the winners with the Olympic Games under certain conditions:

when they take part in an individual capacity because of international political problems,

Taiwan
in 1980, for the Western sportsmen having taken part in the Jeux with Moscow, boycotted because of the invasion of the Afghanistan by the Red Army .
the Yugoslavia during part of the Years 1990 (civil war).

the unified Équipe of twelve old countries of the Soviet Union disappeared took part without mention of country.
