Historical reference marks
the beginnings of Olympic Nimes Taking over Sporting Club Nimois, Nimes Olympique sees the day the April 10th 1937. The first two presidents of the club gardois are Pierre Chabert, then Dr. Darmon. The August 8th 1937, the club disputes the first meeting of its history at the stage Jean Bouin of Nimes which belongs partly to Jean Chiarigny, cofounder of Nimes Olympique and president of 1942 with 1967. Under the technical direction of Marcel Gebelin (1940 - 1942), Louis Gabrillargues (1942 - 1946) then Rene Dedieu (1946 - 1948), the performances of the club nîmois remain without a future modest, put besides some blows of glare in Coupe de France. As of 1948, with the arrival of talented players such Kader Firoud, Hassan Akesbi, Stéphan Dakowski, Stanislas Golinski, Marcel Rouvière and Edmond Haan and an effective trainer, Pierre Pibarot, Nimes Olympique aspires to shine…It will become several consecutive times vice-champion of France in years 1950 and 60, behind the famous Rheims or the Greens of Saint-Etienne. Years 1970 transfer Nimes Olympique to play two Cuts of Europe (1971 and 1972), but also the beginning of the decline. The June 14th 1982, Paul Calabro yielded his place to Jean Bousquet, but after a descent in D2 in 1984, one will need several attempts to find the higher level. Two seasons, not more, in D1, and, slowly, the fall. In 1993, Nimes 4th D2 and it misses finishes stage coach. 1996 sees it reaching a final of Coupe de France (demolished against AJ Auxerre by 2 to 1) in particular thanks to Pierre Barlaguet whereas the club is only in National (division 3). In 1997, Nimes succeeds in going up in D2 (current L2), but then never manages truly to be extracted from the " belly mou" classification in the course of the years, fault with one shouting instability and an obvious lack of means. At the end of the season 2001 - 2002, the club gardois goes down again once again in National. Currently, although finishing regularly in the " signal 5" national, Nimes Olympique still does not manage to go up in Ligue 2, because too irregular. However, the club has many assets, of which many people for a club of National (more than 5000 spectators approximately per match on average). In conclusion , Nimes is incontestably a Ville of Football, known as well by its many last years within the elite of French football, as by its relatively regular exploits in Coupe de France (3 disputed finales on the whole, 3 lost, into 1958 vis-a-vis Rheims by 3 goals with 1, into 1961 vis-a-vis Sedan on the same score, and into 1996 vis-a-vis Auxerre). A culture of football thus, affirming itself in a more spontaneous and impassioned way that in these Languedocien close close relations: Montpellier HSC, Olympic FC Sète or Ales). Nevertheless, the club gardois is well far from its level of antan, that which made the club of it more fears with the Stade of Rheims, in the years 1960.
