Preparation and organization

The Jeux of XXXIe Olympiade of the modern era will be celebrated in 2016 in a city not yet determined by CIO. The place of the competition will be selected the October 2nd 2009 with Copenhagen with the Denmark.

The applicant cities for the organization of these Olympic Games are:

Europe

• Prague, since the March 22nd 2007.
• Madrid, Spain since the May 30th 2007.
• Bakou,

America

• Chicago, (elected the April 14th 2007 vis-a-vis Los Angeles). Initially candidates, the towns of San Diego, Houston and Philadelphia withdrew their proposal before the American candidate nomination.
• Rio de Janeiro, since September 1st 2006.

Asia

• Tokyo, Japan. August 30th, 2006, the COJ eliminated Fukuoka with the profit from Tokyo.
• Doha, Qatar

Europe

• Berlin/Hamburg, Germany
• Lisbon, Portugal
• Istanbul, Turkey

Rome was candidate, but after the designation of Sotchi like organizing city of the Winter Olympics of 2014, and following the designation of London for 2012, decided to shift its candidature for the Jeux of 2020 .

Remainder, it is not very probable that these Plays are allotted, again, at a European city, after 2012 with London and 2014 with Sotchi. Thus, the candidatures of Berlin/Hamburg and of Lisbon (without real chances of success), or will be withdrawn, or shifted, like Rome with the Plays of the following Olympiad, in 2020. When with Madrid, the doubt remained a long time. That in spite of its honourable failure (arrive at the last but one ballot, with two votes of Paris) with the organization of the Plays of 2012. Indeed, the project Madrid 2012 became the embryo of that of 2016, and it was too difficult at the town of give up this project succeeded already well.

America

Because of the tacit rule of alternence enters the continents, America makes figure of favorite after attributions of the editions of 2004 and 2012 in Europe, 2008 in Asia and 2000 in Oceania. The absence of African candidature goes in the same direction. That can explain the great number of American cities candidates.

Asia

Because of the attribution of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, it is not very probable that Asia obtains the organization of the edition 2016. On the other hand, certain Asiatiques cities presented their candidature with the intention to occupy the ground for a new candidature for 2020.

The final vote will take place only in 2009, after the choice of the 5 finalists cities.
