Preparation and organization

The Jeux of XXXIe Olympiade of the modern era will be celebrated in 2016 in a city not yet determined by CIO. The place of the competition will be selected the October 2nd 2009 with Copenhagen with the Denmark.

  • Tokyo, Japan. August 30th, 2006, the COJ eliminated Fukuoka with the profit from Tokyo.

Cities having withdrawn their candidature

Europe

Rome was candidate, but after the designation of Sotchi like organizing city of the Winter Olympics of 2014, and following the designation of London for 2012, decided to shift its candidature for the Jeux of 2020 .

Remainder, it is not very probable that these Plays are allotted, again, at a European city, after 2012 with London and 2014 with Sotchi. Thus, the candidatures of Berlin/Hamburg and of Lisbon (without real chances of success), or will be withdrawn, or shifted, like Rome with the Plays of the following Olympiad, in 2020. When with Madrid, the doubt remained a long time. That in spite of its honourable failure (arrive at the last but one ballot, with two votes of Paris) with the organization of the Plays of 2012.
