Olympic Games of summer of 1924
The Olympic Games of summer of 1924 , Plays of VIIIe Olympiad of the modern era, were celebrated with Paris, in France, for the second time.
Organization
The others Villes candidates with the organization of these plays were Amsterdam, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Prague and Rome. The attribution of the Plays in Paris takes place the June 21st 1921.Betting on the virtues of “Large Paris”, the Steering Committee chooses the choice to build the Olympic stadium with Colombes and not with the Parc of the Princes or the Stade Pershing, other sites candidates. Pershing is evoked in 1921, then the Park of the Princes, on decision of the government, seems to be initially favorite. The Town of Paris refuse to finance work with the Park, and one folds up oneself then in suburbs. In 1922, one evokes even a time the withdrawal of the Plays in Paris to give them to Lyon… the Stade of Doves, ex-stage of the Morning (1907), is equipped with 45.000 places including 20.000 sat thanks to the financing of the Racing club of France which obtains 50% of the receipts of the Plays.
For the tests of swimming, the swimming pool of the Turrets is built. It is the first basin of 50 m to corridors separated by lines from cork stoppers.
The tests of shooting are held with Rheims, at the stage of shooting built for the occasion beside the Olympic stadium of Rheims. Mr. Thomasson, architect of the Union of the Shooting clubs of France sign the plans of this building.
Construction of an Olympic village with Doves, first of the kind. The decision to entrust to the Steering Committee plays the housing of the delegations was made in 1923 at the time of the Olympic congress of Rome. In the Olympic village, the athletes avaint at disposal an exchange office, a hairdressing salon, a post office, a newsstand, a service of washing and an on-call service of the valuable articles. Three meals per day were offered. The British accepted the conditions offered with the proviso of being entitled to a British cook. The Americans prefer to settle in the park of the castle of Rocquencourt.
The July 5th 1924, the opening ceremony is held with the Stade of Doves in front of 40.000 spectators. The two most applauded delegations were France and the United States.
New ritual of raising three flags at the time of the closing ceremony: that of the International Olympic committee, that of the country host and that of the next country to accommodate the Plays.
