Olloix
Olloix is a common French, located in the department of the Puy-de-Dôme and the area of Auvergne. Olloix belongs to the urban surface of Clermont-Ferrand.
Geography
The commune of Olloix, is composed of a borough and Hameau of Grandchamp is located at the limit between the granitic plate, the bottom of the country, and castings volcanic and the Volcan S, the top of the country to about thirty kilometers in the western south of Clermont-Ferrand on the secondary road D 74.
History
The main street, “street of the three puys”, is old a Roman Voie which led of Vichy to the Mount Gilds while passing by Aigueperse, Clermont, Chambon and Puy of the Angle. The primitive settlement was in Liozun, with two kilometers in the North-East of the borough, on a rocky outcrop dominating the throats of the Monne. The legend says that the Liozun site was abandoned after an epidemic of Peste. The inhabitants then settled then close to the Commanderie of Chevaliers about the Hospital ones of St Jean of Jerusalem. Forteresse there remains today only some sections of wall, the ruins of a turn, and part of the Chapelle which constitutes the chorus current church. This church shelters the lying one of Odon de Montaigut, known as holy Gouérand, commander of Hospital in Olloix died towards 1345.
The puy of Olloix (1002m), the puy of Ozenne (914m) and the puy of Marquerole (840m) are testimonys of the last activity Volcan ic. Top of each one of these puys one enjoys a very vast panorama: the plate of Cézalier in the western south, the Mounts Gilds in the west, the mounts Dômes in the North-West, the plate of Gergovie in north, the Plaine of the Limagne and the Monts of Drill in the east, the Monts of Livradois in south-east. On the soft inclined plates located at the east of the commune one can see many rocks constituting a “granitic chaos”.
In north the throats of Monne, wild and picturesque site, separate the commune of Olloix of that of Cournols which, until in 1872, formed only one and even commune.
