Ollantaytambo

Ollantaytambo is located at 75 km in the North-East of Cuzco and at 2792 m of altitude.

This INCA fortress whose name means the inn of Ollantay , of the name of warrior, was the seat of fierce combats between INCA S and Spanish, Manco INCA taking refuge there to try to federate INCA resistance after the fall of Cuzco.

It is one of the only vestiges of the urban architecture INCA with its buildings, its streets and its patios. In the high part are the vestiges of the temple, very out of red porphyry, most remarkable being six blocks assembled between them with a high degree of accuracy by thinner blocks. On one of them one can see a serpentine sign in relief which symbolizes the Pachamama , the Ground-Mother. The blocks were transported and assembled to the temple by a system of inclined plans, since the careers which are to 6 km.
