Olivier Asmaker

Olivier Asmaker is old a racing cyclist born with Savigny-sur-Orge, in Paris region, the March 13rd 1973. But it is with Rodez that it will pass its childhood.

Runner amateur shining, it gains in 1997 the Coupe de France amateur with the team of Montauban. The ruthénois spends professional on September 1st 1997, within the Belgian team TVM. It takes part in particular in the Tour of the Future. Three seasons of training will be followed from there, during which Olivier Asmaker will take part in the greatest races: Turn of Flandres while passing by the Turn of Italy or the Critérium of Dauphine released. Its best results during these years are rather modest: a fifth place of stage to the Grand Prix of Midi Libre and a fourteenth place Grand Prix of Wallonia.

At the end of the contract at Feasted at the end of the season 2000, the brothers Laurent and Nicolas Jalabert tightens the hand to him to accompany them in the new Danish team CSC-Tiscali. 2001 will be the apogee of the career. It takes part in a great number of races, Tour Down Under in Australia in January with Paris-Turns, in October.

May 18th, Olivier Asmaker escapes in company of runners from reputation, such as David Millar, Sylvain Chavanel, Robbie McEwen, Baden Cooke or Inigo Landaluze, in the Tour of Picardy, disputed in four stages. The group will not return: Asmaker attacks in the last kilometer and is essential as a recluse on Fort Mahon, in the Somme. This victory enables him to cover the shirt of leader. Olivier Asmaker will manage to keep his yellow jersey until the end of the test in spite of the ceaseless attacks of David Millar.

CSC-Tiscali obtains an invitation for the Tour de France grace inter alia to this performance. The latter also ensures Olivier Asmaker to take part in the Turn. It takes the departure of the Grand Prix of the Midi Libre, which makes stage there this year at his place, to Rodez. But in a turn of a descent, Olivier Asmaker falls heavily and fractures the Clavicule. Inalienable for one month, it cannot take part in its first turn. It will take again its season in August.

In 2002, it is present in the majority of the high level races with his/her friend Laurent Jalabert. In April, it misses little doubled by finishing third of the Tour of Picardy, gained by one of its team-members. Olivier thinks whereas its selection with the Tour de France is not doubts, but the sponsor requires an additional Danish runner for the Turn: Asmaker is isolated. In spite of disappointment, the ruthénois carries out a great number of escaped recluses: 180 kilometers in the stage of the Holy Mount Clearly of the Grand Prix of Midi Libre, it is taken again with one kilometer of the line by Lance Armstrong and Laurent Brochard. A few weeks later, it finishes seventh of the prolog of the Dauphiné Libéré. It misses by little a convincing victory at the time of the GP of the Telegram, which it finishes second, beginning September. It does not know it yet, but its last race at the professionals is Paris-Turns, the October 6th 2002. It launches out in the escape of the day, in company in particular of Jacky Durand and Jakob Piil, future winner; 150 kilometers of escape, it is taken again with 26 kilometers of the goal. Its Danish fellow-member carries it in front of Jacky Durand.

At the end of the season, CSC makes the sustained pressure financially to engage the German wonder Jan Ullrich, the contract of Olivier is thus not renewed. Asmaker seeks a team hopelessly, in vain. Its professional adventure will stop there. In 2003, it returns in its team of always, US Montauban. First race, first victory: it gains the GP of Opening of the Midday-Pyrenees in front of the best runners of the area. The following year, it gains the GP of Vougy, in the surroundings of Lyon, and the first stage of the Turn of the Two-Sevres. He even manages to gain the final general classification of the test. This victory will remain like its ultimate victory in the world of the Cyclisme. In 2005, it puts an end to its career to devote itself to its future trade of Policier.
