Olivier (in Italian, Ulivo ) is a Fédération of political parties, created officially the February 26th 2005 but which preexisted as an electoral alliance bearing the same name. Its symbol is the olive branch and its slogan Uniti nell' Ulivo - per Europa (plain in Olivier - for Europe), symbol adopted at the time of the elections of the the European Parliament in June 2004.

Its elected president with Rome (Brancaccio theater) unanimously is Romano Prodi. The office of the presidency of the federation is composed of 13 members including the president: Piero Fassino, Massimo D' Alema, Vannino Chiti, Anna Finocchiaro, Antonio Bassolino (5 DS), Francesco Rutelli, Arturo Parisi, Dario Franceschini, Free Marini (4 members for the Marguerite), Luciana Sbarbati (1 MRE) as two representatives of the federations of associations which will adhere to the federation.

Its federal council is composed of 100 members, that are distributed four (from now on three) the left constitutive ones:

• 49 with the DS (Left Democrats, ex-NCV);
• 36 with the Marguerite (Christian-Democrats, ex-cd.);
• 10 with the SDI (Socialistes Italian democrats, ex-PSI which since 2005 created the Pink with the fist with the radical and gave up Olivier, while always forming part of the Union);
• 5 with the MRE (Republican Europeans, ex-PRI).

The four parties founders, of which three remain, decided to give up their foreign decision-making power partisane as regards politics , institutions and Europe - which will be only field of the federation lately made up.

The seat is fixed place of the Saint-Apostles (S. Apostoli) with Rome, the old seat of Democratici (left the Marguerite).

October 27th, 2007 in Milan, Olivier transformed himself into a new party, the Italian Democratic party (Partito Democratico, Democratic party (Italy)).

External alliance

The federation of Olivier belongs to a broader alliance, often called same name but recently baptized Unione (the Union (Italy)| the Union), with for symbol a hemicycle color Rainbow, alliance which includes/understands also the left parties and of center-left (as I Made green - Greens) which do not want to belong to the federation.

The project of President Romano Prodi was the creation of a great federation of left, temporarily known under the name of Grande democratic alliance (GAD) and whose Christian name will be from now on Unione.
