Oliver Twist is one of the most known novels of Charles Dickens. Published in the form of monthly serial between February 1837 and April 1839 in the review Bentley' S Miscellany , it tells the life of a young orphan in London.

History

Raised in an orphanage of England victorienne, Oliver Twist survives in the middle of her companions in misfortune. Badly nourished, exploited, it is placed in M and Mrs. Sowerberry, manufacturer of coffins and undertaker's assistant of his state. There still, he knows only deprivations and ill treatments. Oliver endures all, until the day when a provocation of an apprentice pushes it to fight then to flee towards London.

Exhausted, famished, it is collected by an group of youth robbers who work for the Fagin old man. Between Bill, Nancy, Monks and the others, Oliver discover a cruel world where only the trick and the force count. He flees and finds himself at an old character who treats it like human. But the group of youth robbers finds it and forces it to take part in a burgling which misses and where Oliver is wounded! Fortunately it manages to turn over to the old character and it learns there from where it comes!
