Olivar Asselin
Olivar Asselin (Saint-Hilarion, November 8th 1874 - Montreal, April 18th 1937) was a writer and a Journaliste Québécois. He is especially known for his Militant nationalist ism and his Pamphlet S.
Biography
He makes his primary studies with the school of row of Holy-Flavie and his secondary studies with the Séminaire of Rimouski. He there supplements a commercial course and undertakes the course known as traditional. For financial reasons, its family emigrates with the the United States in 1891.It occupies a first post of journalist to the Protecteur Canadian of Fall River, in the United States, in 1894. One year later, he is writer with the National of Lowell and with the Jean-Baptiste of Pawtucket. From 1896 to 1898, he is sub-editor to the newspaper the Platform of Woonsocket.
At the time of the War Spanish-American, he undertakes a short military career of 1898 to 1899. Demobilized in 1899, it is established in Montreal and collaborates in various newspapers, of which DEBATEs . Three years later, on August 3rd, 1902, he marries Alice Bouthillier. From 1902 to 1910, he works in close cooperation with Henri Bourassa, which will lead them to found the newspaper the Duty in 1910.
Militant for Québécois nationalism, it sets up the Canadian nationalist Ligue in March 1903, and launches the newspaper later the Nationalist one year. It is at that time that it defends of the colonists for their Droit of cut, while informing the itinerant Commission of the colonization of 1904. In 1905, he undertakes a campaign in favor of the obligatory state education.
He remains in prison to have slapped publicly Alexandre Taschereau (1909).
In 1915, the First World War makes rage. He enlists in the Canadian army expeditionary, and recruits volunteers Canadian-French there to form the 163e battalion.
In 1930, he becomes editor association of the Canada and founds, five years more late, its own newspapers: the Order and the Rebirth .
During its career, it also made of the policy. From 1901 to 1903, he is secretary of the Minister for colonization Lomer Gouin. He stood as a nationalist candidate in Terrebonne to the elections of 1904, then in Saint-Jacob in 1911.
