Oligosaccharide

The Oligosaccharide S are formed Polymère S of a number N of Monosaccharide S (3<=n<=6) by glycosidic connection. They are characterized by a precise sequence and are thus carrying information. They are seldom free, generally dependant in a covalent way on lipids or proteins (glycolipides or glycoprotéines). In the animal cells, the oligosaccharides of the membrane glycolipides and glycoprotéines are located extracellular side. They constitute markers of surface (example: the specific antigens of the blood groups has, B and O of the membrane of red blood corpuscles). They can also have a role of reserve at the plants.
