Oldarra is a chorus men of Biarritz in the Yrénées-Atlantiques.
Created in 1946 in Biarritz, Oldarra (of the Basque dash ) is in the beginning whole of dances and vocal mixed, directed towards the interpretation of works of the Basque musical inheritance.
In 1963, the group becomes a chorus of male-intonated voices, being directed towards its configuration of today. It is at present a vocal ensemble composed of 40 musicians amateurs.
Since 1972, it has as a musical director (chief of chorus) Iñaki Urtizberea and interprets has cappella works Polyphonique S as well profane as religious. In the exclusively Basque beginning, the repertory widened, integral works Spanish, Slavic, north American (negro - spirituals).
Towards the end of the year 1990 it takes the name of chorus of men of the Basque Country Oldarra abesbatza , formation independent of initial association.
The chorus occurred many times in Europe, in Africa, in Latin America and in the United States (New York - Carnegie Hall). He was the prize winner many prices (Turns, Bilbao, San Sebastian) and sang in 1997 with the Park of Princes (Paris) at the time of the finale of the large Slam of the tournament of the 5 nations of Rugby (3/15/1997).
Its chief, Iñaki Urtizberea, teach the traditional music since 1961, in particular with the academy of Bayonne (Txistu), and worked the voice and the direction of choruses with Juan Eraso, professor with the academy of Pampelune.
