Old store with the vivres of Mainz

The old store with the vivres of Mainz is an old military building austro-Prussian of storage of the vivres located at Mainz. In 2004, it was transformed into residences of luxury.

History

Construction

It summer built of 1863 to 1867 for the fortress of Mainz, more the big city of the Grand Duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt, by the German Confederation. The installations of garden of the Palate Schönborn, were abandoned in 1863 for the construction of the store. The building, in sandstone, has seven stages. The stores were used mainly for the storage of the supply of the garrison, in particular for cereals. For this reason, a Boulanger IE was also generally in the building itself.

It is the last building of the German Confederation in Mainz, because of the Guerre austro-Prussian of 1866. After 1904, the store not being of more same military interest following the transformation of the armament, it is gradually dismantled.

Today

Unutilised for one long period, the store with the vivres was renovated in 1966, and was transformed into 2004 in residences of luxury.

It also shelters the Musée of carnival and them files of German cabaret, as well as a restaurant mayençais middle-class.

In the vicinity is the new store with the vivres, in the district Mainz-Neustadt.
