Old man-Nice

The Old man-Nice is the old part of the town of Nice and remains today the heart of the capital azuréenne. The district is animated the day by many trade, being able to be as well extrèmement typical (sale of olives and spices of all kinds, local vegetables or flowers of the area) that very modern (shops of clothing very " tendance" , many tattoers). The night, the whole of Niçois give itself appointment in its marked out narrow lanes of restaurants, of pubs and of limp of all kinds.

Its inhabitants speak rather about the " Ville" old woman; ( Vièia Villa ). Formerly, the nickname of Babazouk was also given to him, local adaptation of the Arab expression meaning the “door of the souk”.

Old man-Nice is bordered:

  • in the East: by the hill of the Castle (the fortress in question was destroyed in 1704 by the troops of Louis XIV besieging once again the city, one of the balls of the soldiers unfortunately falling into the powder reserve from the citadel),

  • in the South: by the sea and the Quay of the United States (prolongation of the Walk of the English),

The Law courts of Nice are located in the middle of Old man-Nice.

Life in Old man-Nice

Capital azuréenne of the night festivals, the narrow lanes of Old man-Nice are animated by restaurants, bars, pubs and discotheques. In the morning, when the various fétards, tourists and students, return on their premises for désaouler, the authentic character of the city takes again its rights and the inhabitants will make their purchases on the splendid market of the Cours Saleya .

The Old city however slowly lost its character of village since the Années 1970, the traditional trade of proximity, in particular the very many tripe butchers formerly, disappeared, making place with those intended for the tourist S.
