Stone Age is a group Breton formed with Paris in 1992. The concept of Stone Age consists in mixing the traditional instruments Celtique S, primarily Breton S, with electronic arrangements, in turn futuristic, dancing, planing, Onirique S or méditatifs.

Members of the group

The four members of Stone Age are:

  • Michel Valy (known as " Kervador ")

  • Marc Hazon, (known as " Marc De Ponkallec ")
  • Jerome Gueguen (known as " Lach' Ilaouet ")
  • Dominique Perrier (known as " Terracotta ")

Description of the group

The four members of the group were already multi-instrumentalists experienced during the creation of Stone Age. Three of them had even already acquired a solid experiment in the world of the music: Dominique Perrier was a narrow collaborator of Jean Michel Jarre during the Années 1980 and Michel Valy worked much with Alan Stivell. As for Jerome Gueguen, he is also full member of the group Gwendal since 2003 and collaborated with Philippe Lavil for which he in particular composed the tube Of Brittany Or besides , in 1990.

In 1995, Stone Age are nominated with the Victoires of the music for their 1st album Old Stone .

The words of the songs of Stone Age are written in equal proportions in Breton, French and in English. Although very impressed Celtic and Breton sensitivity, the melodies are overall pop and thus remain easily accessible to the uninitiated persons with the Breton Musique.

For this reason as well, one finds their albums arranged with the ray “Brittany” as with the ray “Pop/Rock”, in “World” or with that of the music “New Age”.

Their songs are especially original compositions and the recoveries are exceptional. Even if some their pieces can be dancing on the occasion, Stone Age is not a group of Fest-noz, unlike other electro-Breton groups like the Jabberers, Plantec or Strobinell. One can thus more easily attach Stone Age to other Breton artists evolving/moving out of the circuit of the fest-nozs, like Tri Yann, EV, Denez Prigent, Alan Stivell. However, the marked presence of electronic arrangements also brings them closer to not-Breton groups of traditional music which make great use of electronics, such as Urban Trad, Afro Celt Sound System, Deep Forest, Transglobal Underground…
