Old Kingdom

The Old Kingdom (in Rumanian: Vechiul Regat ) indicates the territory covered by the first state-nation independent joining together of the populations of Romance language, the Rumanian modern, state made up of the principalities of Valachie and Moldavie. It was made up under the auspices of the Traité of Paris (1856) when the assemblies of the two principalities (which were under the suzerainty of the Othoman ) élirent both Alexandru Ion Cuza as prince, carrying out their unification de facto.

Uses of the term

According to the Explanatory Dictionary of the Rumanian Language (DEX), the term was used to indicate the principalities of Moldavie and Valachie " until the establishment of République". Since, inhabitants of the " Royaume" old man; were called " regăţen" to the First World War; this term is still from of use nowadays to distinguish the Wallachians (inhabitants of Valachie) and the Moldavians (inhabitants of Moldavie) from Transylvanian (inhabitants of Transylvania) and from the inhabitants of Banat.
