Okinawa Honto

Okinawa Honto is the name given by the Japan board to the principal island of the prefecture of Okinawa and the archipelago of the islands Ryū-Kyū, in order to specify well that one speaks well about this island. Its principal city is Naha.

Okinawa Honto was returned to the Japanese by the American in 1972, following incidents with American soldiers then a revolt. In spite of that, there remain very many American bases dispersed on the island, with airports by which can forward the atomic weapon. The whole is protected by a specific airspace (cf List of military bases of the United States of America in the world).

In Naha, one crosses many Westerners, compared to the remainder of Japan (apart from the accessible cities in Shinkansen).

Okinawa Honto presents many traces of its occupation by the man to prehistoric and historical times. Certain ruins show that a network of castles made it possible to defend this at the same time Chinese royaune and Japanese during centuries.

The island, by its insulation, presents a important Endémisme as for fauna and the flora, and still lodges single species in the world like the Pic of Okinawa ( Sapheopipo noguchii ) and the Râle of Okinawa ( Gallirallus okinawae ).
