Geography

Okayama (岡山市 - shi) is a Japanese city, capital of the prefecture of the same name and located in edge of the sea intérieure.
The city is crossed by the rivers Asahi and Yoshii.

Culture

The flower which symbolizes the city is the flower of Chrysanthème.

The area of Okayama has a dialect called Okayama-Ben.

Inheritance

  • the Koraku (後楽園) which is regarded as one of the three more beautiful gardens of Japan, with the Kairaku of Mito and the Kenroku. This garden was wished by a feudal lord: Ikeda Tsunamasa . It was started in 1686 and was finished in 1700.
  • the U-Jō (black castle) which was built in 1573 by Naoie Ukia. It was destroyed during the Second world war and was rebuilt in 1966.
