Oil-can

A oil-can is an accessory of laboratory making it possible to add to the drip a Liquide in a container.

It made up of a tube in Verre from approximately 1 cm diameter (there exist several sizes), graduated (generally in tenth of millilitres), is provided with its mouth with a Robinet making it possible to vary the flow of the liquid, and opened at its other end.

Use

One fills the oil-can of the liquid which one wishes to add up to level 0. For a question of precision one checks the absence of bubbles of Air to the lower part of the tap.

While playing on the opening of the tap one can vary the Rate of decrease of the liquid in the container located in lower part, and thus to pour exactly desired volume.

Utility

The oil-can is frequently used when one wishes to carry out a Titrage manually. It is a precise instrument. The tap is not necessarily integrated.

Directions for use

  • to empty the oil-can of the distilled water which it contains

  • to rinse the walls of the oil-can with a little solution
  • to fill the oil-can with the same solution
  • in end with use, to recover the remainder of solution, to rinse the oil-can and to fill of distilled water
